The honest framing: if you self-host LiteLLM, the "price" you pay is operational load — a VM, a DB, monitoring, and the engineer-hours to maintain it all. Self-hosting vs managed — what you actually sign up for

The defining choice between LiteLLM and HiWay is not about features. It's about what you want to operate.

Self-hosting LiteLLM means you own the proxy. You deploy it (Docker, Kubernetes, a VM). You put a Redis and/or Postgres behind it for virtual-key management and spend tracking. You monitor it (Prometheus, Grafana, or whatever stack you use). You upgrade it on each release. You debug it when a provider changes their API. You make sure it's HA if your production cares about availability. Data & compliance

Self-hosted LiteLLM puts you in complete control of the data path. The prompts never leave your infrastructure; the logs live where you put them; residency is whatever your VPC is.
